Sometimes you just need to step outside.

Sometimes I sit in front of the screen and only notice much later that I have been staring at the same spot for quite a while. I meant to finish something. Instead, I open another tab, look up one more thing and think again about something I have already thought about enough.
At that point, another hour at the computer usually does not help.
What helps is simple: put on a jacket and step outside.
The mind can get stuck at the desk
We like trying to solve problems in the place where they appeared. At the desk. In the office. On the sofa with a phone in our hand. We search, compare and plan, hoping that one perfect thought will finally put everything in order.
But the mind does not always work like a search engine.
Some thoughts do not become clearer when we hold on to them more tightly. They only become louder.
A change of place interrupts the loop. Suddenly there is wind, traffic, a bird hopping over a fence as if it has somewhere extremely important to be. Other people are having their own day. The world reminds us that it is bigger than the thing we are stuck on.
Sometimes a thought does not need a new plan. It just needs a different place.

Outside, there is no progress bar
That is something I like about being out and about. It does not constantly demand a result.
A walk does not have to achieve anything. I do not need a certain number of steps, an impressive destination or a photo proving that I went outside.
A short walk is enough.
While the feet do something simple, the mind gets space. Sometimes a solution appears. Sometimes I realise the question was not that important after all. And sometimes I come back without solving anything, but still feel calmer.
It does not have to be a big trip
When we hear “go outside”, we can turn it into another project: shoes, route, destination, equipment, weather app.
I mean something much smaller.
Ten minutes around the block. A bench you normally pass. A detour to the bakery. A path through the woods. A walk through town without headphones. Maybe simply stopping somewhere and noticing what is actually there.
Especially when there is a lot going on in your head, a small change can make a surprising difference.
What appears along the way
Maybe that is also why I like “uNi on the move”. Something big does not have to happen. Often it is a small thing: a sentence you overhear, light between buildings, a strange encounter or an idea that arrives precisely when you were not looking for it.
Those are not journeys around the world.
But perhaps some stories begin exactly like that.
Not in front of an empty document.
But on the way home.
When was the last time you simply stepped outside without having something to get done?
